With the Super Bowl still somewhat fresh in our minds, it’s a good time to step back a couple years and hear this inspirational story from former NFL player and long time coach, Tony Dungy.

Tony Dungy has coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Indianapolis Colts and is well known for having a strong Christian faith. In this video he discusses his coaching career and how, although considered successful by many measures, a Super Bowl victory eluded him.

“You have an idea of the way things are going to go,” says Dungy, “what you hope for, what you dream about, what you pray for, and it doesn’t come through. That’s when it’s easy to get disappointed with God.”

He relates how, no matter what, he kept his faith ahead of football, both in his personal life and in his professional life. He talks about how despite disappointment and wanting things with all your heart, God has his own plan and timing for us, and how we need to trust in that.

Since retiring as a head coach Dungy has worked as a television football analyst and is active in numerous Christian charities and missions. He is slated to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame later this year.

Do you struggle with understanding God’s will for you in the face of setbacks and disappointments? Dungy has some compelling thoughts you’ll want to hear.
