Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Chaplains Respond to Barcelona Terror Attack

When terrorists attack, natural disasters take place, the evil-doers of the world strike, or calamity befalls us, there is an organization waiting in the wings to help that you may not have heard about — The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team.

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team is a group of crisis-trained chaplains who deploy whenever needed to assist with the aftermath of terror attacks and other extreme situations around the globe.

The team has just deployed to Barcelona, Spain following the August 17th terror attack that claimed 14 lives (to date) and injured 100 more. Chaplains from around the United States and the U.K. arrived this morning to assess the situation and to begin offering support and assistance to those affected by the attack as well as to the local church community.

“Once again we see terror bringing death and suffering in Europe,” said organization representative Jack Munday. “In addition to the unspeakable pain felt by many families today as they mourn the loss of loved ones, people across Barcelona and beyond will be processing the fear that comes with an attack like this. We will come alongside the people of Barcelona and support local churches to offer the hope of Jesus in this time of darkness.”

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team was developed by Franklin Graham and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. It has since grown into a nationwide network of chaplains in 48 states who are specifically trained to deal with crisis situations. They have deployed to more than 255 disaster sites, including shootings, floods, hurricanes, wildfires and tornadoes.

According to their website: “From the ashes of 9/11, the Rapid Response Team ministry was developed to share Christ in the midst of crisis and disasters. BGEA currently has chaplains in the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. These volunteer chaplains are carefully selected and trained to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ and appropriately share God’s hope through the One who “heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).”

Psalm 147:3  He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.

This most recent trip to Barcelona marks the ninth terror-related deployment to Europe for the group in recent years. The Team has previously dispatched chaplains to Paris, France in 2015, Brussels, Belgium; Nice, France; Munich, Germany; and Berlin, Germany in 2016, and Londan, England; and Manchester, England in 2017.
