The term “Euphoric” can be explained as a heightened state of extreme pleasure or an exaggerated, but false, sense of well being. As humans, we naturally seek pleasure in anything that makes us feel good, happy, or secure. Knowing this, we seek our heart’s desires, regardless of the repercussions they may associate as a result . As we reflect on the history of mankind, we note one thing we all have in common: Regardless of race, age, ethnicity, or background, we all have a desire to be satisfied in or with something. Depending on what we’ve been taught or predisposed to, we naturally seek this in areas where we think we may find it. Whether it be possessions, relationships, status, money, or even our careers, the reality is that those things were never intended to bring us true joy, hope, or purpose.
In the book of John chapter 4, we see an example of the woman at the well seeking water to quench her physical thirst. She has a life changing encounter with Jesus who tells her:
“Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again ever! In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up within him for eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)
The truth is this: We all have an eternal itch engrafted in our hearts. And the only eternal being that can scratch that eternal itch, is Jesus. Don’t believe the lies. Euphoric.
